Client Service Officers

Client Service Officers

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (ATSILS) have long seen the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to support clients understand the legal process, to provide culturally sensitive support and to ensure clients feel safe in accessing services. Many ATSILS employ people in these roles, and they may be known as field officers, court support officers or client service officers.

Most importantly, our client service officers are members of the Aboriginal community in Tasmania.

TACLS has client service officers in both the Hobart and Launceston office. Our client service officers:

  • support our clients through their legal matters and lawyers in working with the client
  • can contact services and provide other supports that make the legal process a bit easier
  • undertake legal health checks with clients to help identify challenges our clients are facing which either have lead to their current legal problem, or may lead to new issues
  • are involved with community legal education
  • work with lawyers for legal outreach to prisons and other organisations.
